Compassionate Support Through Your Grieving Process

As a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist, I guide clients in working through all of the complicated and oftentimes confusing feelings and thoughts that come in dealing with loss. I think it’s important to process, find ways of taking care of ourselves, and make meaning of who or what we have lost so we can continue to grow as people.

Grief is a reaction to any type of loss. We have all experienced loss in some way. It can come from the death of a loved one, the loss of roles we once had (e.g., a teacher retiring after many years), a friend moving away, a significant place we often frequented no longer being there, and so on. Typically, grief is more intense when it’s something or someone we grew attachments towards and had an important place in our life.

Grief will many times include sadness but that’s not all. It can involve feelings of guilt, yearning, regret, and even anger. There might be avoidant behavior like wanting to escape the thoughts and emotions that come up when you're reminded of the person or thing you are grieving.

Grief work, however, does not need to be done alone.
